How to install BIDS for SQL Server 2008 R2 and Visual Studio 2008 RRS feed

I want to add SSRS and SSIS functionality to my ASP.net web site, I'm using Microsoft Web Developer 2010 Express and SQL Server 2008 R2 .

I could not found a good step-by-step tutorial of how to install "Business Intelligence Development Studio"

Searching in the Internet I found that what I need to develop this was "Business Inteligence Development Studio" (BIDS) so, I search what should I need to install and run this and found that BIDS its not already available for Visual Studio 2010, so I should download also Visual Studio 2008

I download VS 2008 from this page: http://www.microsoft.com/visualstudio/en-us/products/2008-editions/express

I try to download several times the "All - Offline Install ISO image file" but the download interrupt. So i just download "Visual Basic 2008 Express Edition with SP1" and install it ... Is this enough for BIDS?

I trying to install BIDS, I run the SQL Server Installation Center and follow this steps:

    1. New Installation or add features to...
    2. SQL Server Feature Installation
    3. Select: "Reporting Services","Integration Services" and "Business Intelligence Development Studio"
    4. Install

I was hoping that this would be enough, but I can't find the "SQL Server Business Intelligence Development Studio" program in this route: Start/All Programs/SQL Server 2008 R2... Am I doing something wrong?

Could you send me a link where I could find this steps or could you help me?

    Thank you!

    Hi Ralex11,

It seems your steps are correct, one point you should note, SQL Server Express version does not support Reporting services, so if want to make use of BIDS, you need to install the version exclude SQL Server Express version.

For more information about Features Supported by the Editions of SQL Server 2008 R2, please see: http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc645993.aspx#Reporting

    Thanks,

Are you sure? Check this link: http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms144275.aspx

And also, why is available the option to install it?

Actually i meant to the You-Hu Fu comment only, you must install SQL Server inorder to use reporting services fully, Express will not be supporting many things. sorry if i made a wrong statement Ralex11
