A data source instance has not been supplied for the data source RRS feed

  • Question

  • I created a rdlc report and it works on local / development environment but while deployment on server it does not works and reports raise error:

"A data source instance has not been supplied for the data source"

    What could be?

Why works well on local / development environment and not while deployment on server?

    Thanks 5 Regards,

    Rui

  • The silly reply to this would be to make sure the proper version (report viewer 2008, 2010, 2012, 2014) is installed correctly on the server.

Other more insidious issues can be

    1) entity data source not connecting to the database

    2) permissions WRT the web server thread pool

    3) differences in web.config

    4) group policy WRT dotnet framework.

The assignment of the data source occurs in the markup (as you know since it works on dev).  If you're sure of the basics, I'd have your sys admins place the web server in a different OU and try it again.  You should have a deployment server that is exactly the same as production to test his kind of thing.
