ExecuteReader requires an open and available Connection. The connection's current state is closed RRS feed

  • General discussion

  • By doing the below flow in the SQL statement, we encounter the following error after we click the Validate button in the Table Import Wizard: ExecuteReader requires an open and available Connection. The connection's current state is closed. But when we tried to remove the synonym from the sql flow, everything works. Also, directly accessing objects to the snapshot database also works.  Is this some kind of a limitation of the PowerPivot. If not, is there anything that we need to be aware of to make this work?

The sql flow in SQL Statement…

We use PowerPivot to get data from objects residing in a SQL Server 2008 R2 database.

Basically, the objects that we're accessing from the SQL Server 2008 R2 database is a SQL VIEW in the same database.

That SQL View is actually reading data from synonym also residing in the same database.

And that synonym is reading data to a different  database (snapshot database to be specific) residing in the other server.
