Using EWS to open brand new mailbox RRS feed

  • Question

  • Can anyone tell me if it is possible to open a brand new mailbox for the first time via EWS?  I have a new mailbox that has never been logged into and I need to programmatically login to have Exchange create the subtree for  ":\non_ipm_subtree\freebusy data"  so that I can later via PowerShell execute the permissions command set-mailboxFolderPermission.

I have established a connection to EWS and when I try to retrieve a folders list i get the error: Error: Unable to access an account or mailbox.    I am guessing that since the mailbox has never been logged into that EWS can't find it using it's normal means?

  • No EWS doesn't kickoff the folder Initialization in a new mailbox what you need to do is one of the following

use Test-MAPIConnectivity http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb123681.aspx  this is the easiest thing to do if your using a provisioning script.

    Send it an Email,

Connect to it via Outlook or OWA

    Cheers
