WinCE 7 on modern Intel CPUs? RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hello,

Facing some hardware changes on a still going product we are forced to upgrade.
As a feeler: Do you know, or expect issues running Windows CE 7 on a Baytrail, Braswell, or the coming Apollo Lake?

    Many thanks.

  • Hi Jan,

we use Compact2013 on a baytrail E3800. Our board supplier supplies a binary BSP for Compact13 and WEC7, too.

There is also a source BSP from witekio (formerly known as adeno) available on there website (for WEC7, too) but that Compact2013 source BSP did not work as expected in my case. Fortunately, the board suppliers BSP does.

Important: Not every BSP includes a KITL driver for the I210 ethernet card (baytrail's onboard ethernet chip). A workaround is to use an additional NE2000 kompatible ethernet card, if possible.

    Kind regards,

    Pascal

  • Hi Jan,

I believe there are a number of devices already running Windows CE 7 & 8 (Windows Embedded Compact 7 & 2013) on Baytrail chipsets.  I can't imagine any issues on Intel Chipsets but related SOC drivers may be a challenge.

I suggest you search the following site for a likely BSP. http://www.microsoft.com/windowsembedded/en-us/bspcatalog.aspx

    Sincerely,

  • We are on an embedded device and in a situation, where is it hard to add a NE2000 compatible card.
Are we out of luck with the I210, or later Intel NICs?

  • Our BSP and board supplier has included the KITL driver for the i210. So, there is a possibility to get a KITL driver for the i210.

  • Hello,

Which board are you using?  We are in a similar situation.

       Thanks.
