SharePoint Designer Issues after Upgrade RRS feed

  • Question

  • I am still running the SharePoint 2007 and SharePoint Designer 2007. We recently went through a rollout to upgrade to Windows 7 and IE 9. While running Windows XP and IE 8 I was able to open SharePoint pages from the browser with Designer. I am unable to do that since the upgrade. I have been opening Designer and then opening the page from Designer. I make my HTML changes and so to save, but I get an error everything telling me "Microsoft SharePoint Designer has stopped working" and the program closes by default. I have also noticed that if I open SharePoint Designer from the mapped drive (Open with... Microsoft SharePoint Designer) that pages will not load. Help!!!

    Thank you!

  • No, I understand you're not running SPD2010. SPD2010 is an application that is considered to be part of the Office 2010 suite (though it's a free download and does not require Office 2010).

The recommendation if you were to install SPD 2010 (i.e. An Office 2010 application) is to install it after installing SPD 2007 first. What I am suggesting to try is making sure you install SPD2007 before installing Office 2010.

It probably doesn't matter but is something to try.

  • The first error is when I'm trying to save changes in SharePoint Designer. This is the error I always get. Even if I just edit and change to Design view, I get the same error.

The second is when I open the page from a mapped drive. SharePoint Designer has to be opened previously before opening from a mapped drive.

  • Are you talking about the application log under Computer, right click, Manage? I have run an Office repair already with no luck.

  • Are you also running SPD 2010, SPD 2013, or Office 2010/2013? If so are these the 32-bit version and did you install SPD 2007 first?

Have you updated with Office 2007 SP3?

  • I'm only running SPD 2007 and Office Professional 2010. Office is the 32-bit version. SPD 2007 was installed at the same time as Office as a part of a PC "upgrade" through my work's rollout program. They pushed all my files and software to the new PC as a part of a backup/restore. I use "upgrade" loosely because my last PC worked just fine. :)

  • I would check their order. The download for SPD2007 states it's recommended to install SPD2007 before SPD2010. It doesn't specifically say anything about Office 2010 as a whole but my gut says you should maintain this order for best results.

If using both the 2007 and 2010 versions of SharePoint Designer simultaneously on the same computer you must install 32-bit versions. Also, it is recommended that you install SharePoint Designer 2007 before SharePoint Designer 2010.

  • Okay, but I'm not running SPD 2010 at all. It has never been installed. Do I need to install SPD 2010?

  • another thing i am thinking, do you have anti virus installed on the machine,if yes, could you please run a full scan include spyware * malware etc...see if its shows something.if something found delete them rather quarantine

but if nothing found, then disable the antivirus / firewall and try to open the designer.

one thing also i noticed, you did not apply the SP to your 2007, could you please apply the latest SP(3).
