In a SOA architecture how worth is to use TCP-IP for inter component communications RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hello Everyone,

We are planning to re-architect one of our product comprising of several number of components. The major change planned is to replace HTTP basedcommunication with pure TCP-IP socket communication. TCP-IP socket will going to be open forever by the server & each client will communicate with it in a subscriber notification manner. In earlier stable product this communication was done using HTTP calls(WCF) between clients & server AND also same technique for the other inter-component communications.

I wanted to get suggestions/areas to look into before going ahead/any precautions/impacts of using this kind of approach for any SOA based product.

    Thanks in advance!!

  • How many connections are you expecting? As a rule of thumb I would be nervous about relying on fixed channels like that. Do you need that speed?
