Kinect for Windows SDK Beta 2 RRS feed

  • General discussion

  • On Friday 4th November 2011, Beta 2 of the Kinect for Windows SDK was released. It contained some breaking changes from the original Beta. Because the Kinect Services in RDS are built on top of the Kinect for Windows SDK, the RDS 4 Beta would no longer work for Kinect-related applications. (RDS 4 Beta services that are not related to Kinect remain unaffected).

A temporary fix for this problem has been released on CodePlex:

This fix enables you to continue working with a Kinect sensor with RDS 4 Beta.

The next version of RDS will be released shortly and will work with Kinect for Windows SDK Beta 2. Until then, your options are as follows:

    • If you have RDS 4 Beta installed with Kinect for Windows SDK Beta (from June 2010), do nothing and wait for the next version of RDS which will be released shortly.
    • If you had RDS 4 Beta already installed, and then upgraded to Kinect for Windows SDK Beta 2 when it came out, you must install the fix to continue working with a Kinect sensor.
    • If you have installed RDS 4 Beta since the 4th November then you have most likely installed Kinect for Windows SDK Beta 2 (because the old Beta is no longer available). You must install the fix if you want to use the Kinect.

We apologize for any inconvenience. The short delay was unavoidable due to the requirement to test the final Kinect for Windows SDK Beta 2 before releasing an update to RDS.
