Kinect sensor range RRS feed

  • Question

  • Is there a way of increasing the sensor range past 12 feet or any plans in the future to implement this?

  • Basically, in order to double the range, they would need to at least quadruple the number of pixels. (This is inherent in the technology. The object covers fewer pixels the farther away it is, so a higher density is needed to give good data.) By using a unofficial SDK, you can retrieve data that would otherwise be marked as out of range, but the error rate would be much higher. By using a lens, you should be able to extend the range, but at the expense of short-range vision.
