WES8 Setup, Template, Customize Boot and Logon

    Question

  • Hi, I'm currently using Windows Embedded 8 Standard with the evaluation product key of 180days.

    I want to know how to set up/or what template should I use for the OS to make it run Unity3d Developed Games but with less/unnecessary software.

    And also, I want to disappear the boot, loading, login screen. I want after the bios loading, the game will next to run.

    I'm doing a kiosk alike machine. If I'm able to test the WES8 properly, we will buy a license of WES8 100SL.

    Thank you.

  • My book covers some of these items like hiding boot screens and launching applicaiton on startup: http://www.annabooks.com/Book_PGWE8S.html

    What is needed for Unity3d to run requires some investigation into what OS support features are needed to run the engine. Dependency Walker can give some guidance on the DLL, which you can the search to see what modules/components they are in.

    I tried to use Windows Embedded 8.1 Industry Pro, and I can make login screen disappear by editing the Regedit.
    HideAutoLogonUI = 1
    BrandingNeutral = 32
    But why Windows Embedded 8 Standard doesn't have like that in Regedit?

  • Fir WES8. use ICE from the WES8 toolkit to create the custom image, where you can set these types of settings in the answer file. You can do the same in Windows Embedded 8.1 industry, but the tool you have to use is System Image Manager SIM from the ADK.

    If you are looking to use Windows for your project, I suggest that you look at Windows 10 IoT Enterprise (aka Windows 10 Enterprise LTSC 2019). WES8 and Windows Embedded 8.1 Industry are near EOL:

    Hi Sean,

    Thank you for that information. Our plan is to stick with WES8 until its EOL then we will upgrade it to Win10LTSC. Right now, I'm able to make use of ICE. I modify the Template Device Retail and add the Custom <g class="gr_ gr_13 gr-alert gr_spell gr_inline_cards gr_run_anim ContextualSpelling ins-del" data-gr-id="13" id="13">Logon</g> and Unbranded Boot. Then I'm currently studying how the Windows 8 Application Launcher works and other stuff.

    Because our project will need a secure platform.
    BIOS Boot Logo -> Run the Game -> When the game crashed -> Display <g class="gr_ gr_43 gr-alert gr_spell gr_inline_cards gr_run_anim ContextualSpelling ins-del multiReplace" data-gr-id="43" id="43">Blackscreen</g>
    I would appreciate if you can give me some example template/<g class="gr_ gr_52 gr-alert gr_spell gr_inline_cards gr_run_anim ContextualSpelling multiReplace" data-gr-id="52" id="52">catalog</g> for that.

  • There is no template to follow, you have to choose the best feature packages for the application. You will want touse Shell Launcher feature to launch the game at startup

    Hi Sean,
    That's what I'm using it now. Shell Launcher. Although I modified it thru the registry

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon
    Shell = wscript.exe "C:\PreLauncher.vbs" "C:\Launcher.bat"

    And I think, it's 99% of what I what my machine boots up. (BIOS->RUN GAME)
