How to remove spaces in between text? RRS feed

  • Question

  • Good Morning Hans.

    I want to remove any spaces between words

    Variants

    TNRT = Lady Lightning

    TNDS = Lady Lightning

    The result will be stored to these variants

    TNRTX = TNRT(Remove Space between text)

    TNDSX =TNDS (Remove Space between text)

    The outcome should be

    TNRTX = LadyLightning

    TNDSX = LadyLightning

    Thank you

    Kosta

    E is 0 why doesn't go to end if

    Dim TIR As String

  • And has precedence before Or, so

    E = 1 And Not TIS = TIR Or TYR = TYS

    is equivalent to

    (E = 1 And Not TIS = TIR) Or TYR = TYS

    Since TYR and TYS are both equal to 2003, the second part TYR = TYS evaluates to True, and hence the entire condition evaluates to True, independent of the value of E.

    My guess is that you want

    E = 1 And Not (TIS = TIR Or TYR = TYS)

  • Good morning Hans.

    If E = 0 or 1

    Doesn’t work in both cases goes directly to ElseIf

    What I need is if E=1 and one of the other are not true to go to Message box, if E=0 then should go to ElseIf

    The parenthesis makes the outcome not true if I remove the parenthesis then it works but when I insert the E=1 then things doesn't work

    I can use two if's one to test for E =1 and the other to do what I am trying to do.

    I was hoping to incorporate this to one if.

    By keeping the Format of the source data base except for the column F becouse I am trying to change the text color just In column F to indicate that something was change in this column when that happens.

  • Happy New Year Hans.

    I have this code below

    In Sheet “Register teams” “wksRT” the sorting is fine at list that what I though.

    When I open the sheet “Register Teams” and clicked on the sort.

    This window popup

    And in the sheet is correct the using the header correctly but is repeating the search to many times as you see it in the image

    Now we got the Sheet “Unregister Teams” wksURT”

    As you can see is doing the sorting once but the header that is using is wrong.

    Both have the same codes

    Sorting order that I will like in sheet "wksURT" is

    Club Id column "D" Cell Values S to L

    Gender column "A" cell Values A to Z

    Team Id column "F" Font Color  vbBlue on top

    Team Year column "B" cell Values S to L

  • Below the lines

    With wksRT.sort

    and

    With wksRT.sort

    insert

        .SortFields.Clear

    This prevents the same sort fields from being added over and over again.

    See if this works better:

            With wksRT.Sort

    I am very sure that will do for the repeated sort field makes a sense.

    What about the Header not being the correct on Sheet wksURT using the second row for the header instead the first row.

    and I don't know if you see my other dilemma about how to sort each column in the same sheet.

    I hadn't seen your new question yet - you posted it while I was composing my previous reply. Try this for the sort of wksURT:

            With wksURT.Sort

                .SortFields.Add(Key:=wksURT.Range("E1"), Order:=xlAscending, SortOn:=xlSortOnFontColor).SortOnValue.Color = vbGreen 'Fifth order of sorting Club

  • DSWCS is the same as wbDSWCS, so you could keep on using DSWCS, but if you prefer, you can use

    Set wbDSWCS = DSWCS

    I see no reason to use two separate variables for the same object though.

  • Yes You are right.

    so I ran the code.

    opens a directory folder and is asking for a Folder name *.xls

    I though will display the file name where say Folder name and I just have to select the directory where the file should be stored

    the only thing I did  after Season I add a space & " "

    Dim strPath As String

    If G = 1 Then
            Season = "Spring"
        ElseIf Not G = 1 Then
            Season = "Fall"
        End If
        With Application.FileDialog(4)
            If .Show Then
                strPath = .SelectedItems(1)
                If Right(strPath, 1) <> "\" Then
                    strPath = strPath & "\"
                End If
            Else
                Exit Sub
            End If
        End With
        wbDSWCS.SaveAs FileName:=strPath & "Division Standings WCS " & _
            Season & " " & Year(Date) & ".xls", FileFormat:=xlExcel8

    And one more question

    "On Error Resume Next" where this goes? in the beginning of the code or line just before the error will happen or the line after where the the error will happen

     Let me know Please.

    What do you want to use On Error Resume Next for?

    In the end of the program I am copping the data from one workbook to the new workbook the one I just made.

    The first time there is no data.

    if i run the code below I am getting an error.

    If I have to redo the data and try and to copy it to the new workbook now there is data in the new workbook, so I am clearing the date before I copy the new one.

    now the last row works.

    I need to make sure that the program doesn’t stop when is searching for the last row when the sheet1 in the new workbook is empty

    Also is why I have to make sure that the workbook is active before I search for the last row if I don’t do that, I get an error

    wbDSWCS.Activate

            lastrowDSWCS = wbDSWCS.Worksheets("sheet1").Cells.SpecialCells(xlCellTypeLastCell).Row 'Finding the last row that has a data in workbook "Division Standings WCS"

            wbRAURT.Activate

            LastRowRAURTSheet1 = wbRAURT.Worksheets("Register Teams").Cells.SpecialCells(xlCellTypeLastCell).Row 'Finding the last row that has a data in workbook "Register and Unregister teams" Sheet1

            ‘On Error Resume Next

            wksDSWCS.Range("A1", "O" & lastrowDSWCS).Clear (I will get an error in this line because“lastrowDSWCS” is 0)

            wksRT.Range("A1", "O" & LastRowRAURTSheet1).Copy

            With wksDSWCS.Range("A1")

  • I am getting an error in the line

    wbDSWCS.SaveAs Filename:=strPath, FileFormat:=xlExcel8

    the error is 91 Object variable or with block variable not set

    Other then that before that line it works the code does what supposed to do.

    Because this did not run I could not see if the workbook open after finish saving the workbook.

    the workbook should open.

  • Error 91 indicates that the variable wbDSWCS hasn't been set at that point...

  • It shouldn't be necessary to activate a workbook to get the last row in one of its worksheets.

    lastrowDSWCS should never be 0, in an empty sheet you should get 1. So I don't understand why you get 0.

  • Yes, you do. If you don't, wbDSWCS is undefined, so you cannot save it.

    It's done and everything else is working fine.

    I think I finish with this project.

    I have run all the tests that I can, but I will not know if there is a problem until I have the true date files and that will be available in two weeks.

    Now to the next problem

    Thank you

  • Hi Hans,

    Question how retired you are.

    I have this excel program that I started year ago and then when things got complicated a gentleman like you help me to get it to working, then I had to add other futures but the original gentleman was not around anymore.

    So, I hired someone I got something that works from him but is not crisp and has some problems, I contact him to explain the unfinish project items, but he is not interested.

    So, I am going to try to see if I can do something with this, I will need allots of help so I will be asking you to help me if you do not mind.

    What I really want to do is to make this work on cloud-based program like google sheets something like that.

    apparently, there is no automatics conversion to any of these platforms.

    I have to figure out what to do.

  • Hi Kosta,

    You are welcome to ask questions in the forum (I would recommend starting a new thread), but I won't be able to help you with Google Sheets or other cloud-based applications.
