    Using VS 2012, SQL Server 2012 & VB.NET

I am about to deploy a web site I've been developing and have a few questions about deployment.

Firstly, the web site is an Intranet application, using Windows authentication and AD to control user access. It will be added to one of our Windows 2014 servers running IIS. An AD group has been created on the AD server and users of the application added to the AD group.

I have changed my web.config file to use Windows authentication and my first question is about this. Do I need to change the 'authorization' settings to <deny users="*" />?

Are there any other web.config changes I need to make?

The 'Publish' methods I was looking at were either 'Web Deploy Package' or 'File System'. With the former, there is the option to specify a connection string. Since I have already specified a connection string in my web.config file, I assume I don't need to specify one here?

Also, with this method, is it simply a matter of extracting the zip file produced on the production server in a destination of my choosing and then configuring IIS with the correct settings (dotnet version, connection strings etc)?

What are the advantages of this method over the 'File system' option?

Sorry to ask so many questions, but this is my first deployment and there's a mass of confusing information out there!

    Thanks for any help.

    Hello Angie,

Thanks very much for the article - it was very helpful. The application is now running on one of our test servers.

There is one issue that I'm grappling with; how do I log off a user who had logged in with his/her AD credentials? Is it any different to how a log off normally works?

It seems that this is a Windows Server active directory issue, you could consider getting help from Windows Server Directory Services forum. Thanks for your understanding.

    Regards,

    Angie
