Package migration from SSIS 2008 R2 to SQL server 2012

Question
-
hi guys:
My company has decided to use Sql server 2012 for the database service, Integration service as well as analysis service
The first question is which tool I should install to run packages ? in SQL Server 2008 R2, I've installed BIDS which is inside the disk.
Also do I need to install any visual studio tools? I was under the impression that the BIDS 2008 was using kinda shell visual studio.
Thanks
Hui

When you install the SQL Server 2012 edition it also gives you the option of installing a VS 2010 Shell [ When you check the SSDT option]. That will allow you to create and edit packages for SQL Server 2012.

Thanks Russ. Our company is currently using Visual Studio 2013. If I install VS 2013 and then install SSDT-BI for VS2012. Next time when I open VS2013, can
I author any BI projects from VS2013 directly?
Not at all. You can use VS2010 or VS2012.Russel Loski, MCT, MCSE Data Platform/Business Intelligence. Twitter: @sqlmovers; blog: www.sqlmovers.com

Hi cat_ca,
To develop package in SQL Server 2012 Integration Services, we use the SQL Server Data Tools (SSDT 2012) which can be installed from the SQL Server 2012 install media. The SSDT 2012 use Visual Studio 2010 shell by default and can be integrated into Visual Studio 2010. By installing SQL Server Data Tools - Business Intelligence for Visual Studio 2012, we can also integrate SSDT 2012 into Visual Studio 2012. However, SSDT 2012 cannot be integrated into Visual Studio 2013. As far as I know, the SSDT 2014 released in SQL Server 2014 RTM will use the Visual Studio 2013 shell and can be integrated into Visual Studio 2013.

I would install the SSDT (SQL Server Data Tools - Business Intelligence for Visual Studio 2012). This provides the Visual Studio version you need with the appropriate templates. http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/jj856966.aspx

VS 2013, does mess up your set up completely. I second Russ's opinion. You should use either VS 2010 or VS 2012
