Debugging C++ hangs on loading symbols for ntdll.dll

    Question

  • Hi,

I just created a very simple code and when try to debug it just hangs on

"Loading Symbol for ntdll.dll from: Microsoft Symbol Servers"

What is that problem? ( I did disable the antivirus completely just in case)

  • Would guess, your ant-virus is not the culprit in this case. For Microsoft symbol-server has some problems at present, delivering symbol-files for System/OS modules. Which, by the way, normally are not that vital for debugging.

So you may want to uncheck 'Microsoft Symbol Servers' in 'Debug->Options...' 'Debugging->Symbols' 'Symbol file' temporarily, till they have fixed it.
Further tips configuring Visual Studio’s symbol settings, to avoid unnecessary delays during debugger-start you may find at

    With kind regards
