Consuming a remote .dll RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi,

I have the following problem and looking for ideas around resolving it.

Server 1 (DB server) contains a .dll that comunicates with an external devices - communications between dll and device is working.

Server 2 (Web server) contains WCF services that need to communicate with the external device via .dll on Server 1.

    1. I can't move the .dll to Server 2 due to security implications.

    2. I can't use SQL Server CLR to invoke the .dll assembly.

What other options do I have to invoke this .dll from Server 2?

    thanks in advance

  • Would dllimport work by specifying the path to dll on remote server if its a local network unc path maybe? For instance, if server 1 has the dlll shared locally as a unc share then you could probably do it this way because it would be recognized as a network path. Looking for an example of this but it seems in asp.net they do this a lot more and dont have the dll in system 32 folder.
