  • Currently running on SQL Server 2000 and wanting to updated to the latest version.

Do i have to upgrade from 2000 to 2005 then to 2008?

Or is it possible to go from 2000-2008?

"you want to upgrade sql 2000 to latest (sql 2008) sql version ?" - YES

  • Here are the documented upgrade paths:

    2008 -- http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms143393(v=SQL.100).aspx
    2008 R2 -- http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms143393.aspx

They both say upgrade from SQL Server 2000 SP4 is supported for upgrading to the new target server.  So, apply SP4, then upgrade your server.  Only certain Edition changes are supported, but those are documented as well.
