Windows store app developed using express edition licenses RRS feed

  • Question

  • I have been developing a windows store App using Visual Studio 2012 Express for Windows along with Blend.

I know I have to renew my developers license every couple of months or so, which is understandable.

In order to test my app on a different machine, I installed my app through packaging.

I was little surprised when it asked me to get the developers license on the test machine. Moreover I use this machine as a Test machine, App does not work once the license is expired and I have to renew my lincense on the test machine.

So my question is can I not publish windows store app developed using just express edition. Do users have same problem if they download my app from windows store and install on their machine?

I do not intend to violate any license requirement/agreement, but just wanted to make sure I do it right way. I do not think Express edition license says anything different. If I have to go buy some licenses I will do so, but I'm not sure.

If some one can clarify my doubts that would be great.

    Thanks

  • You're fine. You need a developer licence to install test packages regardless of how the packages are built. VS Express and Ultimate are the same in this respect.

Apps installed from the store never need a developer licence. They are signed by the store.
