  • Question

  • Hi Team,

We are planning to upgrade sql server 2000 to 2005 and 2005 to 2008.

    1) Can you provide me the steps to be carried out for upgradation?
    2) what are the prerequiste steps to be taken before upgradation?
    3) Also is there any document for both version upgrade and hot patch fix.

    Thanks,

why do you want to upgrade to SQL Server 2005 first and than upgrade to SQL Server 2008 ?

a direct update from SQL Server 2000 to SQL Server 2008 is supported my Microsoft - see here http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms143393%28v=sql.105%29.aspx

  • Hi Sarvan,

    1. How to: Upgrade to SQL Server 2008 (Setup): http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms144267(v=sql.100).aspx.

    2. Before upgrade to SQL Server 2008, please make sure you have backed up all your databases.

    3. First, you could apply the SQL Server 2000 Service Pack 4. Then upgrade SQL Server 2000 with Service Pack 4 to SQL Server 2008.
    Version and Edition Upgrades: http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms143393(v=sql.100).aspx.

    Thanks.
