A failure occurred while applying the product key

  • Hello,

I'm trying to register an installation of Visual Studio 2015 on a machine that does not have an internet connection. Visual Studio states my 30 day trial has expired and is forcing me to resister or exit. Unfortunately, Visual Studio is reporting a failure when applying the product key. I've used this same product key for installations on other systems. Can you please advise?

    Thank you

  • You haven't said anything about how exactly are you doing this but I have Express edition on my two machines and all that is required is to register the product using Microsoft Account and the product becomes active.  There is no product key required.

For paid up versions you need to copy and paste the key by going to:

    Help >> About

Then look for something like: "License this product" or "Enter a product key"  I don't know the exact wordings but you get the idea.  For express/Community  there is no key required so it works for me!!  i only do websites and hobyy APPS using C# so I have saved $500!!!!!  VS2017 is $499 for the professional version but I don't know what it can do that Community version can't do.

  • Hi jolamite11,

    Welcome to MSDN forum.

What's the edition of your visual studio 2015? Please provide the detailed error message when you register visual studio 2015.

Make sure that the edition and version of visual studio 2015 is the same as the others in other system and for license issue, you can call 1-800-426-9400, Monday through Friday, 6:00 A.M. to 6:00 P.M. (Pacific Time) to speak directly to a Microsoft licensing specialist, and you can get more detail information from there.

    Best regards,
