[MEASURES] and [Measures] two different dimensions? RRS feed

  • Question

  • Time and again I have noticed an error whilst installing/deploying an Analysis Services 2005 database.
The error is mainly because the deployer feels that [MEASURES] and [Measures] are two different dimensions.

This error usually comes up on SSAS2005 server that is Case-Sensitive. When the collation is changed to Case-Insensitive, everything runs fine.
This is on Analysis Service 2005 version 9.00.3068 upwards.

Has anyone else noticed this? Is this a bug??

  • I've run into several problems using case-sensitive Analysis Services databases in the past, and I always try to avoid using them. Surely if you've got a case sensitive database though it's fair to say that [MEASURES] and [Measures] are not the same thing? I do remember that certain parts of BIDS functionality, such as when you create new calculated measures in form view I think, do automatically generate MDX that includes references to a dimension called [MEASURES] (which then doesn't work) when it should really reference [Measures]. That's a bug in BIDS, definitely.
