  • Question

  •

    Hi all,

    I m using OS-2003 sp2

        SQL-enterprice edition with SP-2

    witness is having DNS installed.

    A-principal

    B-mirror

    W-witness

i setup all the sql servers and starts the process for the database mirroring, one by one all database started successfully in mirror.

When i used query "SELECT * FROM sys.database_Mirroring" it shows the all things perfect. witness state is also connected in both principal and mirror server.

for the testing i shutdown the A, at that time B states changed from mirroring to Principal, syn.....

After rebooting A when i checked the witness state it shows "Disconnected" in both A and B, then after agin i shutdown the A which was actually in mirror state after reboot........B doesn`t come in Principal state,

it shows the state( principal,In recovery).....

this is the prob. of unavailable witness.......

can any one give me solution why its not able to connect with witness server after rebooting A and shows "disconnected" mode.......

  • Hi,

When You Shutdown A , B states Disconnected (Means disconnected with A ).

    Case !)

It also happens when DNS error occured check your Error logs it might DNS error. In database mirrorng it resolves the FQDN not IP address.

Please try after some time it must resolve.

    Case 2)

I would suggest you check with Database mirroring Monitor and check log.

    Case 3)

Also try to ping the witness with FQDN and IP also check Witness services.
