Is it just me? What happened to all that _vt trash? RRS feed

  • Question

  • I am a skilled we designer and loathe programmatic residue interfering with new design currents as webs evolve on my desktop. I especially HATE that residue bugging up my servers. With that in mind, I was constantly reviewing my websites in File Explorer, deleting all instances of _vti_cnf et al... over and over and over again. Yes, the only solution WAS uncheck Site Settings / Maintain the site using hidden meta data files.

Not since purchasing and installing Sublime3! Expression Web 4 SP2 Trial is managing files as if the toxic hidden files were there... but they are gone! YEAH! Was it Sublime saved the day, or a Microsoft update (say, Web Matrix improvement).

Anyone else sharing in my jubilation?

  • You do realize that by deleting those that EW will no longer be able to automatically update links to pages and files if you rename them, nor will it remember what pages to update if you modify and then save a master page or a dwt.

Just a couple of the beneficial things the _vti files and folders accomplish.
