Azure blob storage issue with CTA Sp3 (EMC Cloud Tiering Appliance) RRS feed

  • Question

  • Dear Team,

I'm facing a situation integrating Azure Classic with CTA 10.

Our main error is following Azure Container <container name>: error: 400 Page blob is not supported for this account type

It issue is that CTA fails to archive any large objects to Azure using Classic default account

error in logs as before: Jan 18 15:19:29 (140447430354688) (ERROR) AzureAdapter::parseResponseError: Azure Container cta2: error: 400 Page blob is not supported for this account type.

Here is a quote from the issue as well
As far as we can tell using block blog is the correct type but the CTA then complains that it is not page blob. Azure only offers page blob storage as premium which we have not compatible, azure target premium storage as a platform for the virtual machine not blob store." I know it works with AWS blob storage as this is what I tested during evaluation of CTA but management us to use Azure due to our Microsoft EA. We were told CTA 10 SP3 was Azure compatible; we just need engineering to confirm the exact storage account settings we need to create the account.

    Appreciate your swift support, please.

We can provide a Webex for further investigation

  • Hi - What is the type of the Storage account used? Is it Premium? Note that "Blob Storage" type of Storage accounts do not support Page Blobs. Also, ZRS accounts do not support Page Blobs. So, you should choose General Purpose storage account and then create Standard LRS/GRS/RA-GRS or Premium LRS.

When we create an Azure Classic storage account using Premium storage you don’t get a choice in container type. You only get a choice when using Resource Manager Storage accounts (Private, Container and Blob)

Does that mean that in all cases what we are trying to do is not supported in Azure? or is the diff. way to create a storage account that you can share with us to solve this.

Also if there is no other way and it is not supported what is the work around this??

  • Can you try with a Standard Storage account? Premium Storage has certain constraints and is best suited as disks for IaaS VMs. It is quite possible that CTA requires a Standard storage account. If you still face the same problem with General Purpose Standard Storage account, can you open a Support Request via Azure Portal? We might have to look at your storage account and discuss additional details directly with you. You may also want to check with EMC if there are any specific guidance for compatibility.

We have tested and it works with General Purpose Storage (Classic) using standard storage with LRS.

Why doesn't ZRS support Page Blobs? is this feature coming in future?

Due to regulatory restrictions we can use GRS/RA-GRS and were hoping to use ZRS between UK-South and UK-West for the CTA storage target.
