Creating a layer from a Digital Elevation Model (DEM) RRS feed

  • Question

  • I'm looking for some high level guidance and strategies for creating a bing map layer from a digital elevation model.

I have my xyz (Longitude, Latitude, Elevation) points stored in a sql database (a good read on that process by Alastair Aitchison here --> https://alastaira.wordpress.com/2010/12/17/examining-3d-terrain-of-bing-maps-tiles-with-sql-server-2008-and-wpf-part-1/ ) .

Next I need to transform these points into shapes/polygons that represent elevation. My thinking is that once I have polygons, I can generate a raster tile. In order to transform the points into shapes, I was hoping that there was a C# library that would perform this task. Transforming from points to polygons is where I am stuck.

Here is a sample DEM layer that I am trying to generate (did the below layer with the Global Mapper desktop tool)

And here is a tile from that layer

Thank you for your time and any analysis or suggestions you might have,
