Display Synonym names RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi,

In SSMS, query analyzer, when I write select * from .... it does not display tables/synonym. I think it should display table/synonym name when I start writing select * from then it should show table or synonym where I have access in that database? Is there any setting on server or database level? It pop ups database names but not tables/synonym. (Windows 2008 R2, SQL Server 2008 R2)

    Thanks

  • Looks like synonyms are not picked by intellisense and Microsoft is aware of this....

tested it on management studio SQL2008R2 Service Pack2(10.50.4000.0) and it  does not work for synonms
tested it on management studio SQL2012(11.02100.60) and it works for synonms

Also, refer this http://connect.microsoft.com/SQLServer/feedback/details/331633 .. Microsoft claims it fixed the issue but some people do not seem to agree.. please go through the thread..

Little old thread, not sure if things have changes...Good observation, though..

    Hope it Helps!!

  • HI

    a) Press CTRL+SHIFT+R
    b) Go to Edit >> IntelliSense >> Refresh Local Cache
    c) Go to Tools >> Options >> Text Editor >> Transact-SQL >> General >> IntelliSense
Select Auto List Members and Check Parameter Information.

  • Hi Saurbah,

    Thanks for reply.

I can see tables name but cannot see synonym. Tables name started with dbo. and synonyms also started with dbo. I can see table name when I write select * from but synonyms are not there. My requirement is to display both.

    Thanks
