a way for a workflow to start even if item is checked out?

    Question

  • Using Office 365/SharePoint Online/SharePoint Designer 2013

Problem: If a person checks out a document without making any changes, the workflow does not start.

Is there a way to check in the item/discard the check out or notify the person who has it checked out via workflow? Or other solution except 3rd party solution?

    Thank you

  • Hi,

Checking out items won’t trigger a designer workflow by design. You need to start workflow manually and check in items via this workflow.

If you want to achieve this requirement, you need to create a custom solution.

Remote Event Receiver is a good option. . The code in an event receiver can be triggered when a new item is created/modified.

How to create a remote event receiver in SharePoint Add-in:

The provider-hosted add-in can handle the following list item events:

  • Thanks Dean.   I marked this as answered -- I'm sure the remote event receiver will work, just haven't had the chance to work on it.
