The Path RRS feed

  • Question

  • I've been working with Linux since RedHat5.0 and DOS 4 , 5 , 6 , 6.22 and Windows 3.1 , 95 , 98 , Vista , Windows7-32-64

I can't see the point of having a PATH statement.

The CronTab or the Index-service should categorize the files on the system into like types.

And then command shell should just search the indexes for the app.

And the App should call the index service to locate its constituents.

That way a person could set up their filesystem any way they want , and it would still work.

If they wanted to put all .dll's into one directory , it would still function.

If they wanted to put all their .ico's into into one directory it would still function.

If they wanted to put all their .chm's into one directory it would still function.

With Windows the installer would have to keep track of all the files in a program and where they might get moved to ,

so it coulk uninstall the app..
