Locality Suddenly Blank RRS feed

  • Question

  • I've been using Bing Maps Geocoding API for a few months.  Suddenly last night when looking up a zip code (e.g. 45202) the API returns a blank locality.  Has something changed?  I use the locality in my application so need to know ASAP how to get it back.

    Thanks!

  • This isn't a bug. A Geocoding service is designed to take an address and return the coordinates for it. It's not meant to fill in missing address information. The geocoding service did often return the city when geocoding postal/zip codes but it didn't do this in all cases. You should not be relying on this information being returned. If you need the city then take the geocoding coordinate and pass it through the reverse geocoding service.

  • I'm having the same issue as well. If you search by city and state with the API, it seems to return locality just fine. Wonder what changed when searching by zip code?

  • I've escalated this to our geocoding team and they are investigating.
