  • Hi Paul,

Have you tried Michele’s suggestion to collect the log? You upload it to an open website like Windows Live SkyDrive or send it to me (v-alsun_at_microsoft_dot_com).

First, I recommend you try to download full version of .NET Framework 3.5 SP1 to avoid network problems: http://www.microsoft.com/download/en/details.aspx?id=25150

Second, clean up %temp% folder before you begin to install it.

Third, complete all Windows updates to avoid updates issues.

Then, make sure all your antivirus and antispyware are turned off during the installation.

    Finally, run dotnetfx35.exe as administrator.

Another possible cause of failing to install .NET Framework 3.5 SP1 is that .NET Framework 2.0 installed on your side is corrupt. To check this possibility, you can use .NET Framework Setup Verification Tool to verify the .NET Framework 2.0. If you failed to verified it, it means .NET Framework 2.0 is corrupt. You can uninstall it from Control Panel and directly install .NET Framework 3.5 SP1 which will automatically install .NET Framework 2.0 SP2 and .NET Framework 3.0 SP2.

If you have any other concerns, please feel free to let me know.

    Best Regards,

  • We concentrate the attention to .net Fx 2.0 because the Fx 2, 3 and 3.5 have the same runtime (2).

So, in order to start the troubleshooting please follow these steps:

    1. download http://www.microsoft.com/download/en/details.aspx?displaylang=en&id=12493

    2. Click on the Start menu, choose Run, type msconfig and click OK

    3. In the System Configuration tool, click on the Services tab

    4. Check the box labeled Hide all Microsoft services

    5. Click the Disable All button to disable all non-Microsoft services

    6. In the System Configuration tool, click on the General tab

    7. Click the Selective startup radio button

    8. Uncheck the box labeled Load startup items

    9. Click OK to accept all changes in the System Configuration tool

    10. Reboot for the changes to take effect

    11. Delete all files in %temp%

    12. Start .NET 3.5.SP1 installation (use the standalone installer instead web-installer)
