MS Project 2003 Past Due Tasking RRS feed

  • Question

  • Is there a way whenever I have a task become past due to highlight in "red" on the Gantt chart?

  • Sure. The trick is to figure out what "past due" means in your organization.

    You'll note that the Gantt Chart bars can be controlled using local Flag
    fields. You just need to develop a formula that trips the flag field to
    "Yes" when specific criteria are hit. Some possible options may be:

    [Baseline Finish]<[Status Date]
    [Finish]>[Baseline Finish]
    Status =2

    Here's a blog post describing how to modify the Gantt Chart in 2007. It
    should be the same for 2003.

  • Might I add one item to Andrews post --  You should probably perform a compound test:

    [Baseilne Finsh]<[Finish] AND [Actual Finish]="NA"  or similar.

    This way, you avoid tripping the flag for historical tasks that finished later than baseline.

    As Andrew stated, it has to do with how you define "past due."  There is a paper on my blog (link below) about "What Percent Complete Should I Be?" that addresses some of the "define the rules" questions.
