Azure VM Backup storage consumption RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi,

If i want to backup Virtual Machine with 500 GB Storage using Azure Backup with 30 days retention, with the compression let say 50% (250 GB). For the storage consumption does it will cost 250 GB x 30 days = 7.5 TB?

Or it only running full backup (250 GB) once + incremental backup for 29 days?

and can we see the backup files with Microsoft Azure Storage Explorer tool?

  • It will be a full copy once(500GB) and forever incremental after wards.

For example, lets say daily churn is 5GB, then storage cost would be : 500GB+29*5GB.

Azure Backup service uses multi-tenant storage accounts, so they are not visible through Azure storage explorer. You can use File Recovery to view files without recovering them.
