Is it possible to replace on-prem adfs with Azure AD? RRS feed

  • Question

  • I've been tasked with researching whether we can move our on-premises ADFS to Azure AD. The only guidance I've found directs me to move the ADFS farm to Azure VMs. I would like to know if there's a way to just move the federation to Azure AD without building a new ADFS farm.

    Thanks.

  • Azure AD is just a database (of sorts), you cannot host any service on it. So the answer is no.

  • There is not "ADFS as a service" in Azure. Your only option is move the ADFS farm into Azure using VMs in Azure.

  • ADFS role can't be added to Azure AD, you need to build VM.
