Can Visual Studio 2002 be installed in Windows 2008 server Operating system? RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi,

We have SQL Server 2005 Enterprise running on Windows Server 2003 R2.  We have Visual Studio 2002.  We are using ASP.Net (web forms) to post data to SQL server and use Seagate Crystal Reports (Enterprise) 8.5 for viewing/printing reports.  Out server operating systems Windows Server 2000, Windows Server 2000 Advanced Server and Windows Server 2003 R2.  Our server hardware may require upgrade and these NOS are at their end of tenure.  We have three options:

    1. Try install our Visual Studio 2002 and Seagate Crystal Enterprise 8.5 on newer NOS like Windows Server 2003, Windows Server 2008.  We do not know how to do it. Or it is not possible.

    2. Upgrade to Visual Studio 2008/2010 and reports to Crystal Reports 2008 and and distribute in our intranet using Crystal Report Server 2008 server.  Retain SQL Server 2005 till 2015 and get support extention upto 2018-19.

    3.  Upgrade to Visual Studio 2008/2010 and reports to Crystal Reports 2008 and and distribute in our intranet using Crystal Report Server 2008 server. And upgrade SQL Server 2008 Enterprise.

Which is feasible, economical and essential?  Can anybody throw light on this issue at the earliest please?
