Porting 16 bit application to 64 bit OS RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi,

We have a very old 16 bit c application. I read in some articles and it seems that 16 bit code doesn't run under 64 bit OS. What are the ways of porting the code to run in 64 bit processor?

What are the items should I need to consider to get the code to work under 64 bit OS?

  • It depends on the application code you have in 16 bit if a porting to 64 is possible. If your code is old 16 bit DOS code I would not try to port this application, too much old stuff in it. If you have an 16 bit windows application it may be possible to convert it with more or less efford.

In general I'd say porting a application from 16 bit to 64 bit is not an easy job, a new design would be a better solution.

If possible I'd let the application untouched and use this application in a virtual machine.
