9004 An error occurred while processing the log for database. RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hello everyone,

    Environment: SQL Server 2005 EE clustered. on Windows 2003 R2 X64. We had an issue with SQL server cluster disk resources and the active node failed and we moved the resources to passive node and it became active node. After the fail-over occurred SQL Server started to throw the following messages in the log file. ;

    An error occurred while processing the log for database 'Mydatabase'.  If possible, restore from backup. If a backup is not available, it might be necessary to rebuild the log.

    The database is in simple recovery mode and in the enterprise manager the database looks online and everything seems to be working fine. but we keep getting that error every minute. I did some search it looks like error indicate serious problem and suggestion is to restore from database backup but we do not have database backup at this point.

    Any suggestions greatly appreciated.

    Thanks you.

    Hmm,I would try following

    b) DETACH database

    c) ATTACH database with single file  option

    This example detaches pubs and then attaches one file from pubs to the current server.

    EXEC sp_detach_db @dbname = 'pubs'
    EXEC sp_attach_single_file_db @dbname = 'pubs',
     @physname = 'c:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\MSSQL\Data\pubs.mdf'
