<<< How to link to Lists using SharePoint Designer 2013? >>>

    Question

  • How can I join 2 custom lists in a page?

I tried with a web part page and a regular aspx page.

Basically the columns are not showing in a table format (.aspx page) or not showing at all (web part page)

    List 1:

    • Modified by (Primary key)
    • Column 1
    • Column 2

    List 2

    • Modified by (from List 1)
    • Column 1
    • Column 2

I tried all the page out there with those keywords.

    Please help.

    Thanks.

  • Hi Chicho84,

Follow the steps to achieve your request:

    1. Add these two lists to data source in SharePoint Designer.

    2. Create a web part page and open this page in advanced mode.

    3. Insert the data source you create in this web part page.

    4. Click the “add/remove columns” in the ribbon and select the column you want to display.

    5. In the web part page, find the code as below and add “disable-output-escaping=”yes”” to make the column to render as HTML and not as text.

    6. Click “to site gallery” in the web part tab in the ribbon to save this web part to site gallery.

    7. Open the web part page in the SharePoint UI and insert this web part to this page.

Finally, we can see these two lists data in the same table.

  • Hi Chicho84,

Do you mean you want to add two lists in a page and get the value of “modified by”, “column1” and “column 2” in List2 from List1?

Why not add the lists to page in UI?

Create the columns in list2 with “Lookup” column type which get value from list1. And edit the page, add list view web parts to this page.

If using SharePoint Designer 2013 to achieve your request, follow the steps:

    1. In the list, click “add new column” and select “Lookup” type, then select list1 and relevant columns.

    2. Create a new aspx page and edit file in advanced mode.

    3. Insert two web part zones, and insert list1 and list 2 Data view separately in each web part zone.

    Best regards,

    Grace Wang

  • Hi,

    Thanks.

I need to have only 1 table with all the data having 1 column as the primary Key that is why I was trying to use Linked Lists.

If I follow your steps this is what I see.
