"Donation" of usused processors to a server. Windows 9? RRS feed

  • Question

  • I know something like this is being done already but I believe the control is sloppy. Most DBA's are always in need of more processing power for their key servers and likewise most employees under utilize their PC power, using it mainly for email. I propose allowing them or the staff in charge of the PC's to completly suspend use of one or more processors on their PC. Then allow a server to be a Processor repository and when another server is overburdened it can ask for processors that are not being used.  Of course this is like a server farm but with several thousand employees with underutilized PC's the cost savings and power could be large. I would guess at user login the assesment of free processor could be made. Of course a fast connection would be needed for this to be useful for real time needs.
