CZECHIA, the official short name of the Czech Republic RRS feed

  • Question

  • Dear Bing Maps team

We would like to draw your attention to the fact that CZECHIA has become the

official geographic (short) name of the Czech Republic and included in the

United Nations’ UNGEGN World Geographic Names database on July 5, 2016

and as well registered in ISO 3166 country codes list.

For this reason, we kindly ask you for the inclusion of the name Czechia and its translations  into your products.

    Thank you

    Vaclav

  • Bing Maps doesn't return short form names for locations and normally doesn't display them either. The geocoder should understand well known ones though. If it does understand this new name yet it likely will soon. The team is working on a bunch of updates to the geocoder at the moment.

  • Just ran some tests. Both the Bing Maps website and the Bing Maps developer API's are able to geocode this new name.
