  • Hi, I think you saw the two "Immediate Alerts" in Timer Job section?

To enable the timer jobs, you must activate the Timer Job Windows service (Right click on computer, manage, select services and Activate Windows SharePoint Services Timer.

After this, after you subscribe to an "alert me" on a list or list item, the most common issue is to receive the first mail but no notification when changes are made.

I already faced this problem and this blog explains well how to configure sharepoint alerts:

  • Using STSADM to make sure that the alerts for that particular site are set properly:

    stsadm.exe -o setproperty -url <http://yourserver/problemsite> -pn alerts-enabled -pv true
    stsadm.exe -o setproperty -url <http://yourserver/problemsite > -pn job-immediate-alerts -pv "every 5 minutes"

Also please check this thread ....

  • Please try this sequence of stsadm commands -

    1. Check Outgoing email setting on CA - verify SMTP details and other setting

    2.   Delete all the register alert  on your web app

    3.   %STSADM% -o execadmsvcjobs

    4.  restart timer service using command prompt

NET STOP "Windows SharePoint Services Timer"
NET START "Windows SharePoint Services Timer"

    5. Update alert template - replace lcid with ur environment

    stsadm -o updatealerttemplates -url http://testserver -f "c:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\web server extensions\12\TEMPLATE\XML\alerttemplates.xml" -LCID 1033

    6. Enable alert on web app

    stsadm.exe -o setproperty -url <http://yourserver/problemsite> -pn alerts-enabled -pv true
    stsadm.exe -o setproperty -url <http://yourserver/problemsite > -pn job-immediate-alerts -pv "every 5 minutes"

    7. Restart services
    IISRESET
    %STSADM% -o execadmsvcjobs
NET STOP "Windows SharePoint Services Timer"
NET START "Windows SharePoint Services Timer"

    8. Register alert on web app , using 'alert me'

    Thanks

If this entire thread has been about WSS 3.0 as the title says, then the entire thread has been in the wrong forum.

Why don't you ask your additional questions in one of the large set of forums for WSS 3.0 (and MOSS 2007 and even earlier) which are here

    http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/category/sharepoint

all of them have "Pre-SharePoint 2010" in the forum title which is unlike here where the forum title says "SharePoint 2010" (which you don't have).

Post this in the Setup/Admin forum there. Not in General.

    2010 Books: SPF 2010; SPS 2010; SPD 2010; InfoPath 2010; Workflow etc.
2007 Books: WSS 3.0; MOSS 2007; SPD 2007; InfoPath 2007; PerformancePoint; SSRS; Workflow
Both lists also include books in French; German; Spanish with even more languages in the 2007 list.
