Visual Basic 2010 Express

  • Hi,

I guess I'm welcome to this forum. My question is: How can I successfully download the Visual Basic 2010 or the whole studio in isoimage? have been trying to download the image, but it asks me to wait for 22 days!

I never used VB, but I'm learning the tutorials and thinking that I can do some programming now if I only have the free edition. I have the file vb_web.exe, but I cannot install it because it wants to download other compulsory software (5-10) in row and it says 35 hours to finish!

I need help on how to run or just use the product online if it is possible without downloading it.

  • Hi CodeWizards,

    Welcome to the MSDN forum.

Here are many situations lead to your issue. Firstly, you need to check your network. In my tests, the VB2010 Express version will take me half an hour to download form the MSDN download link: http://www.microsoft.com/visualstudio/en-us/products/2010-editions/express-iso . You can try to download some samples in my sky-drive and check your network, here is the link: https://skydrive.live.com/redir.aspx?cid=98143bb3a8d877c8&resid=98143BB3A8D877C8!124.  You also can use some network troubleshooting tools, such as Fiddler or network monitor, to check your network.

If you checked your network, you also can try to download it in next several days to check whether the issue is caused in the sever side.

If you have any questions, please feel free to let we know.

  • Dear Mark,

Thank you so much I have downloaded the software and I will install it after burning it into a CD. I have Nero Express for burning the CDs and DVDs, will it not work well? How do I burn it, I mean, does it mean I have to select the .iso and directly burn it to the CD? Can I create the folder (s) for it? Can I burn other software with it together on the CD or only Visual Basic 2010 Express?

It is about the size of the CD either, but in case I burn it into a DVD. If it can still work if burnt with other software, then let me know before I burn it to the CD or DVD.

    Thanks once again...

  • Hi Mark,

The software is installed and working fine. I just want to know some basic examples on how Visual Basic 2010 Express IDE works. Can anyone share with me some basic ideas? I am a self-learner programmer and by the way, I have created the Notepad, Picture Viewer, and Windows Media Player just by following the tutorials from the Microsoft site.

I just wonder what the following things mean:

    1. Integer

    2. Sub

    3. Private (like Private sub...)

    4. Dim

    5. vb.var

and more!!! Is it possible to download a PDF file that will take me through VB 2010 step by step?

    thanks all for your concern

  • Hi CodeWizards,

I’m afraid that we don’t provide some books to download, because it will lead to some Copyright issue. You can find all information provided by Microsoft On the Internet. I think the following link can be a good start:

    Visual Basic: http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/2x7h1hfk(v=vs.100).aspx

Or Visual Basic Guided Tour: http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/90h82b3x(v=vs.90).aspx

    Hope it helps.
