Has anyone any experience with ClusterPrepareSharedVolumeForBackup API? RRS feed

  • I'm trying to write a little tool to backup VMs in our 2008 R2 cluster.  Yesterday the tool was working just fine.  I'd call the ClusterPrepareSharedVolumeForBackup API to put the shared volume into a backup state and then run DiskShadow to copy the VMs.  I tried it on several nodes and it all worked well.

Trying it today, however, and the ClusterPrepareSharedVolumeForBackup API returns a blank GUID for all shared volumes.  I *think* I've hit the problem described in http://www.mskbarticles.com/index.php?kb=2006163 which is damned annoying as it now means I can't get the GUIDs with the API and will have to parse the output of MountVol instead (ugh!)

I know there was a discussion about a year ago on doing this (that's how I got started developing my own solution) but I wondered if there's been anyone else who has had success.
