PowerPivot crash when accessing data model RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi

I'm trying to test the powerBI tools (PowerPivot, PowerMap, PowerView) on my Windows 7 64bit Office 2016 64bit.

Whenever I click on "Manage" to access the data model Excel closes ... I did some research and it seems that the SQL Server installation messed something up with .net 2.0.

The following error message is from the application event log.

".NET Runtime version 2.0.50727.5485 - CLR: Fatal Execution Engine Error (000007FEF8FD600A) (80131506)"

    What I've tried so far:

    • Office reinstall / other Office version (2010, 2013, 2016)
    • .Net Verification Tool
    • .Net repair Tool
    • .Net cleanup Tool
    • Looking up the error in the net

There was an interesting discussion on technet:

    https://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/de-DE/67c98bde-3431-45f9-82b0-3ca0768df4a0/powerpivot-fails-with-net-runtime-version-20507278009-clr-fatal-execution-engine-error?forum=sqlkjpowerpivotforexcel

The Fatal Execution Engine Error is pretty general and can be caused by multiple factors. This was an issue which was fixed in .Net Framework 4.0 but was not back-ported to .Net 2.0 Transferring the case to the Windows SDK team."

The link that this article is referring to does not longer exist. But the answer was "...  Following the link i notice this issues posted dated from 2011 ... "

On other systems without a SQL Server installation everything works fine. I have uninstalled SQL Server but the error still occurs - am I missing something ?!
