Search not working RRS feed

  • Question

  • I get the following error when starting a crawl...

The crawler could not communicate with the server. Check that the server is available and that the firewall access is configured correctly. If the repository was temporarily unavailable, an incremental crawl will fix this error. (0x80041200)

Strange thing is I have used the exact same method of install on all my 3 servers.  2 are in a different locations and 1 is placed in location 2

This is for dev, test and prod  therefore the names of the server are loc2devsp (Location1 development sharepoint)

loc1testsp and loc1prodsp.  The searching is only working on the installation at location 2.  I do not know if this is a coincidence, but how can I fix the search functionality of my Production install?

FYI.  An external crawl of  http://www.cnn.com works fine.

From the server that is working loc2devsp I set up a new content source to crawl and put in http://loc1testsp and the crawling works!

How can I get crawling to work on loc1testsp itself? :(

  • Once again found the answer to my problem... yay!

In the server that were located at location 1 i.e loctestsp I have to put in the proxy server address.  And now crawling works!  Yay

So from the  Central Admin console -- Manage Service -- Search Service --- Search Administrtion screen there is a Proxy Server setting that can be entered
