Consuming WinMD file from C++ app without using /CX extension RRS feed

  • Question

  • My app is written in C++, but I'm not using the C++/CX extension. I need to consume a winmd component that was written in C#, for which I don't have a header or IDL file.

Without C++/CX, it looks like WRL is my only option, but that requires a header/IDL file.

Do you know if it is possible to generate the header/IDL file from the WinMD file? Or is there another option to consume the WinMD file without relying on the CX extension?

Assuming I have the source code of the winmd component. Can I use that to generate header/IDL files?

  • Hi Mario,

Assuming you know the interfaces you need to call (which you do since you have the source and the WinMD file) you can hand generate a header file.
