Timeout RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi there,

I have a client with a SQL server database, to which they connect using an Access front end.  Their machine is particularly slow, and with even slightly complex queries the connection often times out.  The connection string we use to connect to the server is as follows:

    ODBC;DRIVER=SQL Server;command timeout=500;connection timeout=500;SERVER=servername;Trusted_Connection=Yes;APP=Microsoft® Access;WSID=computername;DATABASE=databasename

As you can see, I've tried adding two timeout options in the connection string, but they don't seem to work, queries still timeout in less than the 500 seconds I've specified.  Am I doing the connection string wrong?  Or is there something else I need to do?

  • One timeout section you can check is the SQL Server Remote Query Time Out listed under the Connections section in the Server properties.  By default this is set to 600 secs but it may have been changed.
