  • Question

  • I am trying to uninstall 2.0 SP2 Beta and 3.0 SP2 Beta from my XP Pro.  I was able to remove 1.1 - 2.0 - 3.0 and 3.5 with clwireg.exe however doesn't clean these 2 betas. Appreciate any suggestions as I've spent way too much time trying to figure it out? Thanks!!!

    Hi, mga847,

As far as I know, there is no tool by Microsoft to clean up the .NET Framework 3.5 SP1 Beta, which including .NET Framework 3.0 SP2 Beta and .NET Framework 2.0 SP2 Beta.    You know, they are still Beta versions, which means there may be some unknown issues among them.

I have heard of some problems on .NET Framework 3.5 SP1 Beta’s setup and installation, like we should install Windows Vista SP1 before we setup .NET Framework 3.5 SP1 Beta and so on.

For more detail, you could refer to:

            http://weblogs.asp.net/scottgu/archive/2008/05/12/visual-studio-2008-and-net-framework-3-5-service-pack-1-beta.aspx

However, I have not heard some report issues when uninstall the .NET Framework 3.5 SP1 Beta.  Maybe it is not a good news, because more problems found in Beta version, a better release version will be.   So I suggested you to try a normal uninstall way, like using “Control Panel”
à “Add and Remove Programs”. (.NET Framework 3.5 SP1 Beta at first, then is .NET Framework 3.0 SP2 Beta, and .NET Framework 2.0 SP2 Beta at last)    You could also check the registry key of .NET Framework under “HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE” à “SOFTWARE” à “Microsoft” à “.NETFramework”, delete the corresponding registry key.  Also under the folder %SystemRoot%/Microsoft.NET/Framework/, I think you could delete some unnecessary files.

If you have any problems on uninstalling .NET Framework 3.5 SP1 Beta, you could give Microsoft some feedback.   I think it will be very valuable for the release version in the future.  (http://connect.microsoft.com )

            Thanks,

    Best Regards,

    Lingzhi

    Hi, mga847,

I think another explanation of your situation could be the uninstall procedure is locked before we uninstall the .NET Framework 3.5 SP1 Beta.  So remove .NET Framework 3.5 SP1 Beat at first, then try uninstalling .NET Framework 3.0 SP2 Beta and .NET Framework 2.0 SP2 Beta.

Maybe it could help you.   Please let me know your process of handling the uninstall procedure.

          Thanks,

    Best Regards,

    Hi, mga847,

Today, I went to the blog of one expert on installation and setup of .NET Framework, Aaron Stebner.   And I found that he has made some conclusion on how to uninstall .NET Framework 3.5 SP1.

You could refer to: How to uninstall the components of the .NET Framework 3.5 SP1.

I think this is what exactly you want.

           Thanks,
