Bitalk teriminator tool RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi,

I am exploring in to BT teriminator tool to identify wha are all the support & maintainence available. but when i go through that, i found "Before running Terminator, always make sure you have a BizTalk Backup of your databases, all the BTS hosts have been stopped, BTS SQL Agent jobs have been disabled.". so every time when i run this tool do i need to backup/stop BT instance & jobs?

Also, is there anyway to integrate MBV/BTM?

    Thanks,

    Vinoth

  • Hi Vinoth,

You can use BHM (BizTalk Health Monitoring tool) which has integrated with MBV(Message Box Viewer) and terminator tool .

BizTalk Health Monitor (BHM) can be added to the existing BizTalk Administration Console or run individually to provide the following features:

    • Customizable dashboard displaying overall health of BizTalk environment
    • Generate and view MBV reports
    • Run Terminator tasks for maintenance
    • Create custom queries
    • Send email notifications
    • Schedule report collection
    • Perfmon integration with preloaded scenario-based counters
    • Monitor multiple BizTalk Environments
    • Store reports in SQL

It can be downloaded at https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=43716

Overview of BHM is well described at http://blogs.msdn.com/b/biztalkhealthmonitor/archive/2014/06/26/overview-of-biztalk-health-monitor-bhm.aspx

    Thanks

  • Hi Vinoth,

I think the official line is that it is supported on BTS 2010 and above and may work on other versions.

If it works on other versions it won't be supported though.

    http://blogs.msdn.com/b/biztalkhealthmonitor/archive/2014/08/01/bhm-is-now-officially-available-for-biztalk-server-2010-and-biztalk-server-2013.aspx

You can download it as mentioned, and Sandro Pareira has written a blog on how to integrate it in to the BizTalk Admin Console.

  • Hi Vinoth,

I have not tested it with BizTalk 2009 . I assume it may work  without issue .

Have you tried running the setup yet.

    Thanks

  • Hi Abinesh,

I tried to install the BHM in BT 2009 . seems it is working and able to integrate with BT Admin console.

but one question, when i select the maintenance (Teriminator), by default 3 check box poped up.

    BizTalk Backup of your databases

all the BTS hosts have been stopped

BTS SQL Agent jobs have been disabled

so it means its a mandatory to disable host and backup db and deisable all job to identify and resolve (run those scripts). since in production , when we need down time for this take teriminator resolution.

    Thanks,

    Vinoth

  • Yes that's the correct way to use terminator tool or any maintenance activity on the production environment.

I do assume you  have backup jobs running which takes your sql partial and full backup . This way you have backup ready from the sql agent jobs.

I would suggest to take a downtime after business hours to work with maintenance activity

    Thanks

    Abhishek
