  • Question

  • I have to install the hotfix given in the link

    http://archive.msdn.microsoft.com/KB971831

    My target system is in windows server 2003 R2 which is not recognizing the file type .msu. Is there any way to install it in this os version. or is it targeted only for vista/server 2008?

    it appears this hotfix is only for Vista/WS 2008. Why are trying to install it on WS 2003?

    You're also asking in the wrong place. This forum supports .NET Framework installation and setup. For best answers to your question on Windows Server recognition of the .msu file type, please ask in a topical Windows Server forum, here:

    If I were in your situation, not risk adverse, and feeling LUCKY, I might try changing the extension on the hotfix to .msi, then right-clicking on it to see if I got an Install option in the context menu.

    However, I would NEVER do that on a production system I depended on.

    Again, from the text file in the download itself"

    "ApplicabilityInfo="Windows Vista SP2;Windows Server Core SP2;Windows Server 2008 SP2;"
    Applies to="Windows 6.0"
