Migrating public folder to Sharepoint RRS feed

  • Question

Our organisation wants to move away from public folders and Microsoft suggests that SharePoint is the best platform to migrate the public folders into. Few questions regarding the migration:

1.) Cant we just use wss 3.0 to save all the public folders? Why is that MOSS is recommended?

2.) If public folders are not going to be part of Exchange any more then organisations will have to pay for Exchange server as well as SharePoint Licenses, how is this cost justified?

  • There seems to be a misconception.

MOSS 2007 has the ability to *search* Exchange public folders.

WSS 3.0 doesn't have this ability.

But as for migrating them, I don't think either product offers migration tools. So you will have to do it yourself and then it probably doesn't matter if you have a WSS 3.0 or a MOSS 2007 list that is receiving the contents.

Q2 isn't a question for a public technical forum.  Ask Microsoft.
