Installing Academic version over existing Express version RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi,
I have been using Express version. Today I am going to get and install Academic version on the same laptop. Should I uninstall Express first? Are there any other issue to handle?
    Thanks.

  • Express and Academic were designed to be installed side-by-side. It will do no harm to install Academic without removing Express.

However, you need to be aware of the following:

    1. If you have any code you want to keep, you will have to copy it from the Express installation across to the Academic installation, run DssProjectMigration on it, and then recompile.
    2. If you remove Express first, it will leave behind and files that were NOT in the original distribution. This effectively leaves your new code behind so that you don't lose it. This might make it easier to migrate to Academic because you will be able to see what has changed.
